Interior Design Trends for Fall

Interior Design Trends for Fall

With the start of a new month also comes the start of a new season — and with it, new interior design trends! September 1 often signifies the start of fall (even if the first day of fall isn’t technically until September 23). During this time, many of us are eager to pull out our oversized sweaters and fluffy blankets to transition our homes into a fall ambiance. Tumble designer Kerri Besse shares her tips on what’s trending in the design world this season and how to incorporate this fall’s interior design trends into your home!

What fabrics, colors, and textures are seen in interior design trends?

It is ALL about green for interior design trends this fall. Green accent walls, green rugs, green pillows! Many interior design trends this fall are focused on bringing the outdoors in with coordinating Earth tones. (Think about Forest Bathing in your home!)

Accents that pair well with green are textural natural wood, dried botanicals, subtle colored ceramics, beige/taupe marbles, more simplified striped upholstery fabrics, suede, & leather.

How Can Someone “Warm Up” Their Space for Fall’s Interior Design Trends?

A great way to showcase fall interior design trends is to accent with warm tones. The bar at the Proper Hotel in Los Angeles designed by Kelly Wearstler beautifully represents the California cool look with a fall twist. When decorating in a similar style, imagine the sun setting over the desert and bringing its colors into your space (think: reds, oranges, and yellows offset with dark blues and greens to incorporate the interior design trends of greens and natural textures).

A deep and richly toned washable rug such as Savannah Indigo/Brick is perfect to achieve this look. For an added element, accent with decor such as terracotta paint, baskets hung as wall art, Southwestern tapestries or blankets, raw silk pillows, unique tile backsplashes, unique ceramics, rich velvets, & geometric art!

It’s also important to note that neutrals will never go out of style and are always on trend! But, for a warmer fall look that capitalizes on fall interior design trends, choose a washable rug that has a dense pattern in neutral colors such as our Harlow Sand/Taupe. Chair rails hung close to the ceiling or arranged in box shapes on the walls are great ways to create a luxurious and elegant look. Cozy fireplaces, boucle upholstered furnishings, neutral toned pottery, watercolor landscape paintings, or a wallpapered accent wall tie the look together.

What Else Are You Noticing About Fall Interior Design Trends?

Wallpaper is really having a moment right now! We at Tumble love to pair a more patterned wallpaper with a modern rug style that will give your eyes a place to rest. If wallpapering an accent wall, we recommend not hanging too many pieces of art on that wall. Let the paper speak for itself. Wallpapering an entire room is great for entry ways, linen closets, laundry rooms, or guest bathrooms.

The Vienna Graphite washable rug is the perfect rug to compliment your wallpaper this fall. Add some velvet pillows and colored pottery that pulls colors from the wallpaper to make the space feel even more warm & cozy!
